Seeking Healing and Recovery
Let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance.
Proverbs 1:5 (NIV)
As members of the body of Christ we are instructed to bear one another’s burdens (Gal. 6:2). For some of us, this may include addictions and other destructive behaviors. For others, it may mean coping with the “normalcy” of living in a broken world, e.g. disobedient children, financial insecurity, and difficult relationships.
It is the desire of the Session of Grace Presbyterian Church to walk with you in whatever struggles you face and to help bear your burdens. Please feel free to contact your shepherding Elder or Pastor Sears to discuss any issues with which you feel you need help in coping. Strict confidentiality will be honored. At the same time, however, we feel that maintaining contact and accountability is essential to healing and recovery. It is how we “love each other well.” Thus, your Elder or another lay-leader (with your approval) should follow-up with you to see how you are doing and to ensure accountability for any action items for which you are responsible.
Finally, as the quote above states, a wise man seeks counsel. Although we endeavor to walk with you through your trials, some things need to be discussed with a professional counselor, too. The listing below includes many resources to give counseling, instruction, and comfort. We do not explicitly endorse any of the listed resources but feel that the list provides a good place to start the journey to healing and recovery. It is incumbent on the individual to find the “right” person or group for them.
Please feel free to contact the church office at (615) 781‑3964 with any questions or requests related to this list.
